The Fiftieth Anniversary
In 1989, the Queen Mother unveiled a plaque at the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the highway. In 2019, the highway celebrated its 80th anniversary. The highway has undergone many changes since it was opened by the King and Queen in 1939.
