War of 1812

Introduction

The War of 1812  between Great Britain and the United States was fought in Upper and Lower Canada, the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, and the United States.  Many significant events took place on the Niagara frontier, including the battles of Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane, among others.  When the war ended with the Treaty of Ghent in 1814, the status quo was largely restored.  However, the war did contribute to a newfound sense of nationalism in Canada.  

The Archives and Special Collections department of the James A. Gibson library contains many 1812 era resources including archival material, books, and newspapers.  These materials include Canadian, British and American perspectives.
