Abstract
Thomas Smith, residing in Fonthill, Ontario was likely the father of Elizabeth Mary Smith, wife of George Field (1827-1905). He is the only Thomas Smith listed in Fonthill during this time period. Sources indicate that he owned/operated an inn at the present location of the well-known Keith's Restaurant at the intersection of Pelham Road and Regional Road 20 (aka Hwy. 20). Thomas Smith's wife, Mary, died 6 June 1851 at the age of 37 and is buried in Brown's Burying Ground in Fonthill.
