Port Dalhousie

Port Dalhousie and Harbour, near St. Catharines, Ontario, ca. 1918

After giving the Duke of Connaught and Princess Patricia a demonstration of locking a vessel through the canal at one of the Locks on their route from the train station, a stop was planned at Port Dalhousie.  Here, ships entered the existing Welland Canal from Lake Ontario.  A demonstration was given of the Pontoon Gate Lifter to show how the present lock gates were picked up in order that they may be set in their places in the recesses of the lock walls.  Other points of interest noted in the programme included Port Dalhousie Harbour, the canal gate repair yard, and the Canadian Henley Rowing Course.
