So Many Catharine's

Catharine Simpson (1818-1856)

The tombstone of Catharine Simpson

Catharine Simpson, the wife of Thomas Simpson, died 30 July 1856 and is buried in Victoria Lawn Cemetery.

Little is known of Catharine Simpson, other than she was "late of Liverpool, England" as noted on her tombstone.  Her husband Thomas Simpson may have been in partnership with Thomas Hostetter in a flour milling operation on St. Paul Street in St. Catharines.

Her epitaph includes these sentiments:

A stranger from a distant land

My beloved slumbers here

Till Jesus our exalted head

With his triumphant saints appear

For we must all appear before

The judgement seat of Christ
