R. Woodruff and Co. - corner of St. Paul & William St.

In 1886, the Samuel DeVeaux Woodruff Family made some purchases at the Woodruff Store. They bought: a Windsor scarf, fabric, towelling, hosiery, a comb, ties, spools, buttons, kid gloves, socks, undershirts, elastic, and napkins.

In 1848, Mr. R. Woodruff and Mr. J. Woodruff opened a general store at the corner of St. Paul Street and William Street. The business sold liquors and groceries. In 1865, Mr. McLaren formed a partnership with R. Woodruff and the business became a dry goods store. From 1869 onward, the company was intent on dealing directly with manufacturers. Their buyer, Mr. McLaren, made semi-annual trips to Europe to buy the latest fashions.
