It is not noted what Mr. Woodruff bought from D.W. Beadle, but we can be sure that the stock was of good quality. Delos White Beadle was the son of famed horticulturalist, Chauncey Beadle. D.W. was born in St. Catharines in 1823. He went to Grantham Academy and then attended Harvard School of Law. He was disillusioned by the conduct of his fellow lawyers so he tried real estate law. When his father died in 1863, he took over his father's nursery business. He formed a partnership with Thomas Buchanan in 1870 and James Dunlop in 1878.
