This is the store that formerly belonged to Mr. R. Woodruff and Mr. J. Woodruff. In 1883, the business was in the hands of Robert McLaren, Alex McLaren and C.O. Borrowman. By 1896, new departments had been added and the building took up about a half acre of space. In 1900, plans for expansion included a waiting room for ladies which would be complete with washrooms and reading material.
McLarens boasted of being a direct importer supplying French kid gloves, Irish linens, Paris gowns, and Asiatic silks.
