Queenston Heights
The CCF held a picnic in Queenston Heights in 1947. Here are some shots from the picnic. The CCF was the Co-Operative Commonwealth Federation which was designed to alleviate the problems of workers, farmers, the ill, and the elderly. Financial problems of the time were believed to be caused by capitalism. The CCF sprung from the Great Depression. It was the first Socialist party and it became the New Democratic Party in 1961.
Mr. Coldwell, who is shown in one of these photos, became the leader of the CCF in October 1940. He was unanimously elected as the party president in July 1942.
