Leonard Atherton
In 1972, Leonard Atherton became the Music Director. He started the Cantata Choir and the Madrigal Singers. It was under his tenure that the orchestra became professional.
The Niagara Symphony and Chorus premiered Barnes' Cantata of Psalms which was composed in memory of his late father. This composition embodied folk, rock, jazz and blues. Milton Barnes was invited back to the symphony to conduct his work.
