Ermanno Florio

Ermanno Florio was born in Carapelle, Italy on March 29, 1954. His family moved to Canada when he was only two. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music from 1966 to 1973. He played the violin in the National Youth Orchestra as well as the Canadian Chamber Orchestra.  At the University of Toronto, Ermanno studied violin under Victor Martin. He studied conducting with Andrew Davis and he also studied with Davis' teacher, Franco Ferrara in Italy. When Ermanno returned to Canada, he worked with several Canadian Orchestras including: the Calgary Philharmonic, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra just to name a few. He took over as the conductor of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra in 1983 and remained in this position until 1995. He was also the music director of the National Ballet of Canada from 1985-1989. He is internationally recognized and has conducted several CBC television productions. He has been the recipient of an Emmy award and a Cannes award.
