Niagara in Winter

During the winter, the river would become logged with ice jams and freeze, forming an ice bridge.  People would descend the gorge to take in the view.   Stands were erected to provide refreshments, photographs, and souvenirs for the tourists.  Tragedy struck in 1912 when the ice bridge broke apart, resulting in the deaths of three people.  It became illegal to go on the ice bridge after this incident.
