Data Collection
The Data Collection for Fayne project by MAMM has students analyze three different friendship pairings throughout the book. After an initial read-through, students focus on the interactions of a specific pair. The data collection sheet includes various categories to track communication, activities, and reflections within the pair’s shared space. Students must record the page number, a relevant quote, and key details that contribute to the book’s themes and plot—elements that a casual reader might overlook.
Omeka
The Omeka process involves scanning items from AMM’s personal archive and providing detailed descriptions. The focus is on cataloging materials related to AMM’s research for The Arab’s Mouth, Belle Moral, Where the Crow Flies and Fayne. Students must categorize each scan by type—such as book, text, image, or magazine—and include a detailed description. This may include historical context, notable text from the scan, or an explanation of its significance. Identifying the specific book the scan relates to is crucial, as it helps clarify its context and importance.
ArcGIS Mapping
The MAMM mapping team makes use of the application ArcGIS to create a geographic visualization based on the information from the data collection team. ArcGIS allows the students to place real-world geographic points with descriptions, images and notation on the significance of these areas within Ann-Marie McDonald’s works.
