My thoughts on lockdown

Description

Question 1: As of this date, in what ways has COVID-19 affected you at work / school / other?
I don’t work outside my home. My husband does. His workplace is much stricter with who can enter the building and keeping people a safe distance apart from each other. My son lost his job and has no income. We are supporting him. My daughter lives in Europe. She is one of two people left working in her workplace.

Question 2: How has it affected you at home?
It’s quieter now. I like it. No rushing around. We eat at home. We have lots of online meetings with friends and groups. I am learning a few new skills. I could have learned them last year to, but I didn’t. I have planned to plant a vegetable garden

Question 3: What are your biggest concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak?
That someone I know will die. That I might never see some of my loved ones again.

Question 4: Do you know someone who has contracted the virus (no names please)? What has that experience been like for the individual(s) and those around them?
No

Question 5: What are your opinions on how the media has covered the pandemic?
It’s all consuming. It seems like there has been nothing else at all on the news or in the papers for a month. It’s important to know the facts but it just shows how news media has really become entertainment. They have nothing else to talk about now. It’s also horrible how there is so much misinformation out there.

Question 6: Do you feel like your local leaders - medical, political, business - are doing a good job in responding to COVID-19? What about at the provincial or national level?
Local leaders have not been forthcoming with details about covid deaths and numbers between region and hospital do not match. Typical of this region. A local politician, Kim Craitor, actually put something on his Facebook page about how to protect yourself from covid-19 that was all full of misinformation. Stupid stuff like sunlight will cure you! He should be ashamed! So proud of our provincial and federal leaders. Feel like they have really stepped up and shown great leadership during very stressful times.

Question 7: When do you think this will end? What challenges are still ahead? What will be different? What will be better?
I think it will be at least a year or 18 months. Will take some time for the economy to regain but people will also be a bit different. Quieter, hopefully less materialistic and appreciating the important things in life.

Question 8: Is there anything else that you would like to say about the COVID-19 pandemic?
I feel like people are out more in my neighbourhood walking and such. When I see them on the street they smile and say hello. That’s a nice change. The sky looks clearer from less emissions. The world already feels like a nicer place.
