The Shickluna Shipyard
Last week, there was news from Brock of an upcoming excavation of the former Shickluna Shipyard on the Twelve Mile Creek.
This is a segment of a c.1855 Welland Canal survey map showing this part of downtown St. Catharines. It includes the famous shipyard as well as the old and new brewery, a vinegar factory, the Welland House mineral well, and various store houses and out buildings.
The Brock University Archives has 53 of these survey maps showing the lands around the Canal from Port Dalhousie to Port Colborne. The original, full map can be seen here - https://tinyurl.com/y7renlqb. And other Canal records can be viewed at:
