The Fight at St. Catharines House
Old school politics. On 26 February 1849, local politician, Rolland McDonald, physically tried to stop William Woodruff from taking the seat as chairman of a committee to decide restitution for losses suffered by local citizens during the Rebellion of 1837 - 12 years prior. This occurred at St. Catharines House in front of an unruly and armed mob. Artist W. Osborn provided a sketch of the heated event.
