Building the Port Dalhousie Lighthouse

Who wants to build a lighthouse?

One hundred and forty years ago, William Smith of the Department of Marine and Fisheries put out a call for tenders "...for the construction of a lighthouse tower upon the pier at Port Dalhousie..."

Someone should have proof read this broadside because Mr. Smith placed Port Dalhousie in Welland County rather than Lincoln. Oh well, the job still got done. The front range lighthouse was completed in 1879 by Richard Whiteacre of Allenwood

This broadside can be found in the Boomer Family Business collection in the Brock University Archives - http://dr.library.brocku.ca/handle/10464/13564
