Magic

The P.  Howard Lyons Collection contains the Ibidem Quarterly which was edited, financed and published by P. Howard Lyons of Toronto, Ontario. Articles were written by popular magicians such as the the Amazing Randi and Stewart James. It sold for 50 cents a copy although no. 36 cost 5 dollars. Ibidem ran from June 1955 until 1979 for 36 issues. The publishing schedule was not consistent and there was a ten year lapse between issue 34/35 and issue 36. There were only 50 copies of the first few issues and each cover was silk-screened by Howard’s wife, Pat Patterson Lyons. Most of these covers bore the name “Patterson”. The emphasis of the magazine was on card magic although there were articles on puzzles and recreational mathematics. Included in the collection are other items regarding magic.

Piff Paff Poof was a magicians' convention which was sometimes held in Fort Erie. It featured people like Ted Annemann who would catch a bullet between his teeth. This particular show was performed at the General Brock Hotel in Niagara Falls in 1941.
