The Three Kings of 1936

1936 was the year that there were three kings.

King George V's accession to the throne was on May 6, 1910. He died on January 20, 1936.

King Edward VIII's accession to the throne was on January 20, 1936. He abdicated on December 11, 1936.

King George VI's accession to the throne was on December 11, 1936. He was crowned on May 12, 1937.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited the Niagara area in 1939. In this photo, David Hanniwell and Eleanor Donald were to present the queen with flowers. David was refusing to do this because the royal couple weren't wearing their "king's hats". David's father, Carl Hanniwell was the Mayor of Niagara Falls, Ontario. He is bending over and coaxing his son to hand over the flowers.
