Nicholas Hauck
Nicholas Hauck is an Assistant Professor of French in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Brock University where he teaches translation and 20th century French literature (among other subjects). He also teaches critical theory and translation theory in the Studies in Comparative Literatures and Arts MA programme. His research and practice explore translation as an embodied encounter between different modes of expression, and the interconnectedness of text, body, and performance specifically as it relates aural/oral experiences (sound poetry, homophonics, non-human sounds). In 2020 he co-founded the Toronto Experimental Translation Collective, which organizes workshops, residencies, and publications with the aim of foregrounding the potential for protest and play in language. Nicholas has been a member of the Research Centre in Interdisciplinary Arts and Creative Culture since 2019, and since 2022 has been Associate Director of the Research Centre and co-editor of the Small Walker Press.
