Six artists make arbitrary lists as a starting point to generate visual and textual content and reflect on the creative process. The outcome is a series of disconcerting yet coherent sets of photographs and short statements.

The city of St. Catharines has a unique spelling. There are many theories about of the origins of the spelling. The most interesting one is that the city was named in honour of a woman. This exhibit highlights the many early female inhabitants of the city that also used this unique spelling of their name.

Stamford, Ontario was an idyllic village in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Businesses and tourist trade were integral to its development. This is a brief history based on the Stamford area focusing on the Stamford Green Plaza and the Town and Country Plaza as well as other relevant businesses.

A look at the several scrapbooks held in the Brock University Archives and Special Collections. The exhibit will highlight several of the scrapbooks and some of the interesting items that were saved in these albums.

VISA Gallery Exhibit - March 2022

Winnie May Beam was born in St. Catharines on January 7, 1889. The pages of her diary held in this website were penned by her in 1900 at the age of 19. Each day she wrote a few brief lines chronicling her life and the life of St. Catharines for this one brief year.

This exhibit traces the visit of the Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Governor General of Canada, to St. Catharines in 1914 to inspect the construction of the Welland Ship Canal. Material from Brock University's Archives and Special Collections are used to illustrate the visit.

The George Field fonds in the Archives at Brock University Library contains a great assortment of photographs from the mid to late 19th century. Who were these individuals and what and how are they connected to George and Elizabeth Field? Some questions may be answered and others will remain forever a mystery.

An exhibit about the internal Brock University newspaper. The exhibit focuses on the opening of the University and changes that ensued over the next several decades.

The Queen Elizabeth Highway was Canada’s very first superhighway. In fact, there were quite a few “firsts” associated with this highway. Author Robert M. Stamp referred to it as the “magic highway to Niagara”, and he could be right.

Rick Bell, a long time resident of St. Catharines, donated his family collection of Black history to the University Archives. The collection comprises of mementos and photographs held dear by the Bell, Jones, Taylor, Tyrrell, Butler and Sloman families. Formerly slaves from Virginia and Missouri, these families settled in the communities of St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Lucan and London. While some of the names have been forgotten, we are forever left with the images of these survivors.

Three hospitals were integral to the growth and development of the Niagara Peninsula. The three hospitals were: The Niagara General in Niagara Falls and The Hotel Dieu and St. Catharines General in St. Catharines.

The present project is born out of two authors’ wish to create a time- and place-bound dialogue that is not quite one. Both texts were written in Austria in Fall 2021. In German.

A guide to the Welland Canal resources in Brock University Archives and Special Collections.

This exhibit examines some of the accidents that have occurred concerning the Welland Canal, using resources from Brock University's Archives and Special Collections. The exhibit includes rail accidents, construction accidents, and accidents involving bridges.

This exhibit looks at some of the bridges and tunnels that allow traffic around the Welland Canal. The emphasis is on well-known current bridges and tunnels, although some of the bridges that were replaced by current bridges or tunnels are also examined.

Documenting the Prince of Whales visit to Niagara

The exhibit focuses on the efforts of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union of Lincoln County. It includes information for this area, but also describes efforts of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union in Ontario.
